Hygiene

Even with daily brushing and flossing your dental routine should include a visit with your Registered Dental Hygienist (R.D.H) a couple times a year. Bacteria and plaque build up on your teeth and gums which may lead to tooth decay and gum disease. A regular cleaning allows our R.D.H. to remove this build up and prevent gum diseases like, gingivitis or periodontitis. We use specially designed dental instruments to scale and polish your teeth.

Generally, your cleanings are paired with a checkup from the dentist. Your gums, teeth and mouth will be examined to detect any problems. X-rays may be taken during these appointments to identify issues that are not visible to the eye. The findings from your exam and x-rays will be used to develop a treatment plan and hygiene routine that works best for you.

Sticking to a regular dental hygiene schedule and frequent checkups prevent small problems from turning into big issues!

Did you know?

Your registered dental hygienist provides a massage
at the end of your cleaning to check your upper back, neck and face for any lumps and bumps that may lead to other health problems.

The beginning of most dental problems are silent, if you are feeling any pain this means it has moved to a later stage, cleaning, x-rays and a checkup can detect these problems before they mature.

Gum disease is a silent dental issue also, because it is painless most of the population are unaware they even have it. Gingivitis affects the gums only but can then develop into periodontitis which affects the bone. Periodontitis can lead to bone and tooth loss.

Your oral and general health are bidirectionally linked. There have been many studies that show a link between periodontitis and diabetes or heart disease. The mouth can provide a direct window into ongoing health issues.

Children under the age of 8 do not have the dexterity needed to properly brush their teeth and should be supervised or assisted.
